Chaining combo attacks and using your gadgets to take down a slew of enemies is rewarding in every way and it all seems so fluid. Spider-Man’s combat mimics its DC counterpart but honestly, I don’t care because it is awesome!. The combat system is highly addictive and clearly, if you have played any of the Batman Arkham titles you will see why. You are in total control of your suit and customize your gameplay style. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Spider-Man is the ability to unlock various Spidey suits and mix and match abilities with them. Progressing through Spider-Man of course unlocks more side missions that you can play to keep unlocking upgrades to your abilities, suits and gadgets. Overall the story and side objectives work well together and keep you interested. Even helping out the police and taking on random side missions was enjoyable and I often found myself doing that more than tackling the story missions. There are a lot of moments throughout the story where you will be left with a WTF look on your face but don’t worry that is a good thing and I won’t spoil it.

I don’t want to spoil too much in this review for the story but playing through the 20 plus hours of Spider-Man was an enjoyable journey that I wish I had more of. Even playing minor missions as MJ was also something I enjoyed. The story does have its ups and downs but the actor’s piece this together perfectly, relationships rekindle like the one with MJ and Peter are something I didn’t see coming but was a treat to watch and unfold as you progress. The story in Spider-Man is something straight out of a movie, along with fantastic voice acting and cut scenes that are some of the best I have seen in a video game, Insomniac games does paint a beautiful story of this Marvel superhero.

The game is intense, to say the least, and filled with action-packed sequences that drop your jaw to the floor from the moment you step into this game. The tutorial sequence is crafted with perfection and the action is non-stop, by the end of the 20 some odd minutes of the opening missions you truly know its time to buckle up and enjoy the ride. This game makes you feel like a kid again and is very enjoyable, I caught myself a few times swaying from side to side in my chair as I mastered my web-slinging skills.Īs a more experienced Spider-Man as this story takes place roughly 8 years into your crime-fighting role as The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Spider-Man’s fluid and beautiful animations along with stunning graphics shine when you are swinging from building to building across the New York skyline, often at times, I would find myself standing up from my gaming chair as I came close to swinging myself into the side of a building. Insomniac Games does a fantastic job of depicting the Marvel Universe and consumes you at every step of the way. I have never felt so in tune with a character in a video game and Marvel’s Spider-Man is a treat. From the moment you swing into Spider-Man, Insomniac Games takes you on a thrill ride that has you begging for more.
